Learn to Read by Listening

You look around you and it could seem that life is spinning out of control; the world, at times, looks so crazy. But life–human history–is headed somewhere.

That somewhere is not so much a place but a person. And that person is Jesus. But how are we to live in the midst of the troubles of life? How do we wait for what Jesus is coming back to do?

Over five mornings (Jan 26, Feb 2, 9, 16, and 23), we will walk through Paul’s letter to the Thessalonians. Ancient words, but with a compelling message for today.

Notice, this will be an online, morning class. We will meet at 9:00 AM (EST, US). Although the class is free, we invite you to register so you can get the class link and materials.

It is likely that you will, at times, feel it. A dryness in your soul; even a sense of spiritual depression. We don’t like to talk about it, but many have felt such things.

So how are we to live in the midst of such times? In Psalm 42 and 43, David not only opens a window into his own troubled soul, but points a way forward for all who are in the midst of such soul-wearying seasons of life.

This online class will live honestly and deeply in these two psalms, look for help and direction. The class will meet online on two consecutive Thursday evenings, January 29 and February 5, at 6:30 pm (EST, US).

Who do you look to for a good model of prayer? We all learn how to pray from someone. Paul might actually be a great model for us!

The disciples of Jesus knew they needed some help in learning to pray. They had observed Him praying and longed to pray better. For many friends of Jesus, that longing to learn to pray is still deeply felt. Drawing on the prayers that Paul wove into his epistles, The River will host an online, two-evening discussion.

These evenings will be given over to buidling an understanding of prayer by listening in on a seasoned minister, a gifted evangelist, and a passionate follower of Jesus–the apostle Paul. What better way to learn to pray than to eavesdrop on one who prayed so well!
